Fleet File Vol 1R review + Maneuvers

Image
Fleet File Vol 1R review  This R volume was created, I believe, to give people the opportunity to buy the Brunhild model as it is one of the most important ships in the series and was previously included in the Vol 1 which has been long out of print and extremely expensive to purchase.  The only duplicate ships between the two volumes are the Asgrimm and Brunhild, both Goldenbaum and Goldenlowe versions.  This makes it a bit awkward as you really need to buy both sets as the other ships are extremely different but then you end up with 4 copies of each duplicate ship.  There are some minor differences which I will get into with the Vol 1 review. This set is mostly for imperial ships as the account for 80% of the included models.   Brünhild (Goldenbaum and Goldenlöwe versions): probably the most iconic ship from the series, the model does justice to the animated series and it is really impressive.   As I mentioned above if you want to purc...

Fleet File Vol 12 and First playtest Review

Image
Fleet File Vol 6 review The set is focused on the empire carriers and both empire and Alliance light cruisers Bang-goo: out of all the Alliance flagships the Bang Goo has a thicker midsection and profile than the standard ship.  Quite a nice design.     2x Imperial cruiser (Goldenbaum and Goldlowe Version): Truthfully the imperial cruiser design is not my favourite especially the soft curve of the front prow.  Having a couple extra models though is quite useful.     3x Alliance cruiser: standard alliance cruiser, as i mentioned other times it's quite useful for wargaming purposes how there are multiple models of standard ships included in these sets.     4x Imperial carrier (788 UC era) (Walküre and Gunship   carrier) (Goldenbaum and Goldenlöwe versions): this is the main part of this set, in comparison with the alliance carriers these models are a lot bigger in both volume and length. There are not many la...

Fleet File Vol 6 Review and Formation figting

Image
Fleet File Vol 6 review Fairly random collection of models, the imperial ones all seem to be simply the ones with a red band in the ensign.   Heorot: Bayerlein's flagship before his promotion and being assigned a unique ship. It's basically a normal imperial battleship but the red strip looks quite nice.

Fleet File Vol 9 Review and Command and order system

Image
Fleet File Vol 9 review This volume is mainly focused on the Black Lancers imperial fleet with 8 out of the 10 ships from that fleet.      Königs Tiger (Goldenbaum and Goldenlöwe versions): The flagship of the Black lancers has a similar appearance to the imperial fast battleship design but is larger in size.

Fleet File vol 3R review and Morale system

Fleet File Vol 3R review I am not sure what the R series of Fleet File Volumes is supposed to represent or be different compared to the normal series. For example the more recently announced vol 10R is very similar to the 10 from the regular series which has been not available for a while. On the other hand volume 3 and 3R are completely different with only the Perceval and Hyperion ships in common. In any case this volume includes 10 ships, 5 FPA and 5 Empire.   Perceval : beautiful model, luckily only available in the Goldenlowe version since the ship was built after Reinhard became emperor. The detail is excellent and crisp but particular attention needs to be applied to make sure not to bend or put pressure on the very fine and pointy tip.    Hyperion : Yang's flagship is also included as another example of one of the few ships with a different color palette. The model is very nice but had a lot of issues installing the antennas, this volume seemed to hav...

How to simulate space warfare

Image
To begin working on some good rules for a LOGH wargame it's first important to identify the core principles that we want them to embody and what are the most important and distinctive features from the series, the stuff that would make it distinctive from a Star Wars game or a Battlefleet gothic. I believe these are: Important and influential commanders which are able to distinctly impact the effectiveness and the way their fleet behaves. Large scale warfare, battles involve thousands of ships and millions of men Formation warfare with the battle-scale arrangement of the ships being highly influential.    The next step is to figure out what time period from history best simulates and resembles LOGH battles. I think this would be the napoleonic period: ranged warfare with soldiers arranged in firing lines and  famous and distinctive leaders with strong personalities.  Units being hit in the flank or rear take more damage and break formation similar to the ships ...

Miniatures overview and Fleet File Vol 7 review

Image
Miniatures Overview  As i previously mentioned as miniatures I will be using the ones from the Fleet File series by Alba Creates. They come already based and painted which facilitate building an army as well as having a very high level of detail for such a small scale. The sculpts are in scale 1/12000. They also provide 1/5000 scale models but they have  smaller roster as well as being far to big to model large scale battles.  The paint job is very high quality but some smudges are visible especially near the more complicated details. I'm unsure what method is used for painting so I do not know why these are present. Most detail though is extremely crisp and the decals are also very detailed.   The ships also come with bases with the Japanese name of the ship and which fleet it is part of. To make things easier I will be making English labels  on the other side of the base with the ship name and its class (e.g. carrier, battleship, destroyer, cruiser, et...
