Miniatures overview and Fleet File Vol 7 review

 Miniatures Overview

As i previously mentioned as miniatures I will be using the ones from the Fleet File series by Alba Creates. They come already based and painted which facilitate building an army as well as having a very high level of detail for such a small scale.

The sculpts are in scale 1/12000. They also provide 1/5000 scale models but they have  smaller roster as well as being far to big to model large scale battles.

The paint job is very high quality but some smudges are visible especially near the more complicated details. I'm unsure what method is used for painting so I do not know why these are present. Most detail though is extremely crisp and the decals are also very detailed.

The ships also come with bases with the Japanese name of the ship and which fleet it is part of.

To make things easier I will be making English labels  on the other side of the base with the ship name and its class (e.g. carrier, battleship, destroyer, cruiser, etc..).

Most imperial ships come in both the Goldenlowe and Goldembaum dynasty format. The sculpts are identical and the only difference is the crest on the base and on the ship hull. Due to the limited number of models available in these collections I will be using them to double the amount of available units to build the army for any specific battle.

Many ships (both FPA and Empire ones) are named but I will also be using them as generic ships of the same class to reach the unit number necessary for the scenarios.

From a collector's standpoint the value of these Fleet File ship bundles is dubious given the large amount of quasi-duplicates or straight up same ships in the same pack or repeated through various ones but from my standpoint this is a blessing.

Vol 7 Review

This pack contains 8 ships, 4 from the FPA and 4 from the empire:

Forseti (Goldenbaum and Goldenlöwe versions): the model is very nice apart from the black smudges at the back. As mentioned before the two versions are functionally identical.

Maurya (Season 1 & Season 2 livery): very nice ship with a distinct colour palette in the very similar FPA fleet. The tiger stripes are well detailed and the ship looks great overall.

Leonidas II: the flagship of the 11th fleet, had some issues assembling some antennas and almost broke one. Had to file down the edges of the plastic so i didn't have to force it in too much.

Abai Geser: a smaller model which looks a bit more awkward on such a big base but this will become even more evident with future, smaller, models.

Imperial battleship (788 UC era) (Watzmann): excellent detail and paintwork on this model, also no assembly needed. Yay. The blue stripe behind the crest makes this model a bit more distinct from the other imperial battleships.

Imperial fast battleship (Thüringen) : is it just me or does it look like a whale?

Overall this set is very nice as it has functionally a single duplicate in the Forseti battleship. It also includes one of the most unique ships in the FPA roster. The pack can be found for about 65 USD if you can get it in Japan or more likely 85-90 USD if you need to ship it and pay import fees.
