How to simulate space warfare

Image
To begin working on some good rules for a LOGH wargame it's first important to identify the core principles that we want them to embody and what are the most important and distinctive features from the series, the stuff that would make it distinctive from a Star Wars game or a Battlefleet gothic. I believe these are: Important and influential commanders which are able to distinctly impact the effectiveness and the way their fleet behaves. Large scale warfare, battles involve thousands of ships and millions of men Formation warfare with the battle-scale arrangement of the ships being highly influential.    The next step is to figure out what time period from history best simulates and resembles LOGH battles. I think this would be the napoleonic period: ranged warfare with soldiers arranged in firing lines and  famous and distinctive leaders with strong personalities.  Units being hit in the flank or rear take more damage and break formation similar to the ships from the series whic

Miniatures overview and Fleet File Vol 7 review

Miniatures Overview  As i previously mentioned as miniatures I will be using the ones from the Fleet File series by Alba Creates. They come already based and painted which facilitate building an army as well as having a very high level of detail for such a small scale. The sculpts are in scale 1/12000. They also provide 1/5000 scale models but they have  smaller roster as well as being far to big to model large scale battles.  The paint job is very high quality but some smudges are visible especially near the more complicated details. I'm unsure what method is used for painting so I do not know why these are present. Most detail though is extremely crisp and the decals are also very detailed.   The ships also come with bases with the Japanese name of the ship and which fleet it is part of. To make things easier I will be making English labels  on the other side of the base with the ship name and its class (e.g. carrier, battleship, destroyer, cruiser, etc..). Most imperial ship

This blog will be mainly to document my wargaming project to simulate battles from the Legend of the Galactic Heroes Animated and novel series.  The objective  is to build two functional fleets (one for the Empire and one for the Free Planet Alliance) and a series of wargaming rules to hopefully try to recreate the flavor and tactics of the setting. The first steps will be to build the miniatures that will be used as units in the game. For simplicity and because of the very high quality, the ships from the Fleet File collection sculpted and sold by Alba Creates will be  used. The ships come pre-painted in the standard line but also unpainted "garage kits" are available and will be used to bolster the ranks of the fleets. The sources that I will be using for the information on the battles, ships and characters are listed below.
